Success in the Court of Appeal for George Mavrantonis

George Mavrantonis is one of chambers’ up and coming juniors.

George Mavrantonis appeared for the Appellant led by Zane Malik KC in the case of Guerrero v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2026] EWCA Civ 953.

The Court of Appeal in this case set aside the Upper Tribunal’s reported decision in Guerrero (s104(4A); statutory abandonment; right of appeal) [2025] UKUT 00276 (IAC).

The Court of Appeal also upheld the First-tier Tribunal’s decision which concluded that a Biometric Residence Card (BRP) issued allegedly in error by the Home Office, is a valid grant of leave. The Court also concluded that the FTT’s decision was an ‘excluded decision’ not open to an onward appeal.
