Shahadoth Karim specialises in Immigration, Nationality, Asylum and Human Rights law as well as Public & Administrative law.
His practice comprises of work at the First Tier Tribunal as well as the Upper Tribunal and is regularly instructed to draft grounds for judicial review and appear for oral hearings at the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Recent or notable cases
Shahadoth has a successful and dynamic practice in all areas of immigration and nationality law. In recent times, Shahadoth has been involved in several landmark cases. He has found success in the lead ETS/TOEIC appeal in the Court of Appeal in respect of new style decisions, see Khan & Ors v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2018] EWCA Civ 1684 (17 July 2018).
He appeared for one of the cases in the linked, 322(5) HMRC tax discrepancy, test appeals in Balajigari v The Secretary of State for the Home Department [2019] EWCA Civ 673 (16 April 2019), which was streamed live by the Court of Appeal. this too was a monumental case which received widespread media coverage and established/confirmed significant legal principles.
The court of appeal said the following about Shahadoth in the case of Alam v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2021] EWCA Civ 1538 (22 October 2021);
“The Appellant was represented by Mr Shahadoth Karim of counsel, who has particular experience in the TOEIC litigation.”
He has also been successful in an unlawful detention claim brought at the High Court: Aslam, R (On the Application Of) v The Secretary of State for the Home Department [2018] EWHC 2123 (Admin) (06 August 2018). One of his specialisms is nationality law and he recently won a claim in the Administrative Court in Miah, R (on the application of) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2017] EWHC 2925 (Admin) (17 November 2017) which involved the attempted removal of a British citizen. He was also instrumental in re-establishing the recognition of proxy marriages in the EEA context, see Awuku v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2017] EWCA Civ 178 (23 March 2017). He has appeared in Courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court Patel & Ors v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2013] UKSC 72 (20 November 2013).
