George Mavrantonis was instructed in an out-of-hours emergency injunction on Saturday evening before Mr Justice Morris in the High Court, in an application to stay removal of a Greek national. Border Force had taken the unlawful decision to detain the EEA national upon entry into the UK on 19 February 2021 with no proper reasons given. The EEA national had no antecedents and no previous immigration history in the UK. Removal Directions were set for 28 February again, with no explanation given as to why a ‘non-visa’ European national was being removed. Upon receipt of George Mavrantonis’s grounds of injunctive relief and upon Mr Justice Morris summoning Border Force to a 10am hearing on Sunday morning, removal was suspended at 1am for the Respondent to investigate the matter.
